Raúl Ramón Rubio was born in Cuba, raised in New York City, and moved to San Francisco in the summer of love in 1967. Since then he has embarked on many different artistic pursuits and endeavors.

Raúl has acted on stages in San Francisco for a variety of companies. His favorite roles have been Treat from Orphan’s by Lyle Kessler for which he won a Dean Goodman award; the Player King and Gravedigger in the Phoenix Theater’s production of Hamlet and Quartermaster Bates from Rain by John Colton.

He produced and acted in Walter by Murray Schisgal in the ’98 San Francisco Fringe Festival, this to sold out houses. He has also produced, directed and acted in Dorothy Parker short stories, which were translated into Spanish and performed in Guadalajara, Mexico. Raúl has also appeared in independent films and modeling shoots throughout his career.

Raúl has been active in the effort to improve U.S. diplomatic relations with Cuba through an ending of the U.S. embargo and hopes someday to do some acting in his homeland. However, when friends ask him if he ever thinks of retiring to Cuba, he answers, “Why, when I live in San Francisco?”
